ok but my mom called to check on me and within the first two minutes pivoted to telling me about my cousin's new job, her neighbor's grandchild, and something she saw on the news. by minute eight we were deep in a story about a person i've never met. i said 'mom, how are YOU doing' and she said 'oh i'm fine' and immediately continued the story. i love her. i will never know how she's actually doing
