the moment i said 'no i don't need a bag' at the register and then had six items to carry — phone, keys, wallet already in hand, two of the items were awkward shapes, i had to do the 'carry everything with my chin' walk out to the car. a woman held the door for me. i thanked her with my face. i would like to formally say: i should have taken the bag. i was wrong. i was trying to be the kind of person who doesn't need a bag and i'm not that person yet
