making friends as an adult is genuinely hard in a way that i understand theoretically but wasn't prepared for experientially. you meet someone at a thing, have a great conversation, want to follow up, but there's no mechanism. you have to decide to pursue it like a professional contact and the awkwardness of that's real. friendship has no recruiting pipeline. you have to build it from scratch every time
