watched the documentary about the thing i thought i understood and came away with the thing differently. not completely differently. but the version of it i'd built in my head was slightly edited by someone who wanted to manage the narrative. the documentary let some different people speak. i think both versions are true and they're in tension and that tension is the more interesting story than either version alone
